The Misericordia University baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Wilkes, Thursday, 2-1, 9-5.
Max Weintraub was the tough-luck losing pitcher in the opener as tossed a two-hitter and didn't allow a hit after the first inning.
Nate Newman, Jeff Slanovec and
Andrew Tressa had hits for MU with Tressa driving in the lone run.
In the nightcap,
Anthony Goncalves was three-for-three and
Andrew Yasinski had a double and a triple.
Tressa,
Chris Tuttle and
Bubba Jasinski all had two hits.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when
Nate Hamlin led off with a single and eventually scored on
Ken Durling's single.
After Wilkes answered with four runs in the bottom half, the Cougars cut the lead in half in the top of the second. Yasinski ripped a two-out double and came around on Tuttle's single.
Trailing 7-2, the Cougars plated three runs in the top of the sixth. Jasinski and Tressa reached on back-to-back one-out singles and scored on a triple by Yasinski.
Tuttle drove in Yasinski on an infield groundout.
Misericordia is 11-8 (2-6) and will host Wilkes, Monday at 3:00.
