The Misericordia University softball team swept a Freedom Conference doubleheader, Saturday at FDU-Florham.
Kat Lucenti tossed a three-hitter in a 7-1 win in the opener and the Cougars took the nightcap, 7-5.
In the opener,
Nicole Hoskins had two hits, including a double, and
Nicole Wenner and
Gina Urbon added two hits
Trailing 1-0, the Cougars scored three times in the top of the fifth and added four more in the seventh.
Hoskins led off the fifth with a double and pinch-runner
Jen Cory moved to third on Jillian Castaldi's bunt.
Courtney Novajosky tied the score on a sacrice fly and
Maria Kidron reached on a two-out single.
Kidron went to third on
Caitlin Cromley's single and Cromley stole second. Both runners scored when Wenner reached on an error to give MU a 3-1 lead.
Novajosky led off the seventh with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. She eventually scored on a double-steal and the Cougars added three more runs thanks in part to four FDU errors.
In the nightcap,
Nicole Boccia had two RBIs and Wenner and
Hollie Sarnak both had doubles to make a winner of Cromley.
The Cougars made the most of their five hits as they scored six runs in the second inning. Wenner led off with a double and Sarnak reached on fielder's choice before Boccia drove both home with a single.
Urbon added an RBI-single and two FDU errors led to three more runs.
In the third, Sarnak ripped a one-out double and came around on a passed ball and wild pitch.
FDU scored twice in the fifth and added three in the sixth.
Cromley scattered 10 hits to earn the win.
Misericordia, 11-10 (5-3), is at Scranton, Monday.
