Despite home runs from five different players, the Misericordia University softball team lost a pair of games to Freedom Conference opponent DeSales, Saturday at Anderson Field.
After losing the first game 5-3 the Cougars let a four-run lead slip in the second, falling 7-6.
In the opener, the Cougars offense was feast or famine as they drilled three solo home runs off winning pitcher
Katie Morrissey, but also struck out 17 times.
Caitlin Cromley, Nicole Hoskins and
Gina Urbon all belted solo homers for MU.
Courtney Novajosky led off the bottom of the first with a single for MU's other hit.
DeSales went ahead 1-0 in the top of the first, but Cromley got that back in the bottom of the second with a solo shot to right field.
After the Bulldogs went up 3-1 in the third, Hoskins drilled a long homer to left field in the bottom of the fourth.
DeSales tacked on insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings and Urbon got one back with a solo blast in the bottom of the seventh.
In the nightcap,
Nicole Wenner's third-inning grand slam gave MU an early 5-1 lead, but the Bulldogs crept back into the game with three runs in the fifth before winning it with three more in the seventh.
MU rallied in the bottom of the final inning, as
Maria Kidron's first career home run pulled the Cougars back to within one. From there, Misericordia loaded the bases with nobody out, but couldn't get a run home.
In the second game, Kidron finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Wenner was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs. Hoskins was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
The Cougars are now 14-13, 5-5 and will travel to Arcadia, Tuesday.
