Nate Newman hit another home run to lead the Misericordia University baseball team to a 9-7 win at Albright in 10 innings, Thursday.

Newman extended his school single-season record with his 11th homer, a two-run shot, in the top of the 10th inning.

Andrew Tressa had four hits and Jeff Slanovec had three hits and two RBIs.

Bubba Jasinski, Anthony Goncalves and Chris Tuttle all had two hits.

Andrew Yasinski struck out eight over nine innings to pick up the win and Pete Doggett pitched a perfect 10th to earn the save.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Goncalves led off with a double to center and scored on Nate Hamlin's RBI-ground out.

Albright answered with three in the bottom of the frame, but the Cougars came back with three of their own in the top of the fourth. Jasinski singled and Jamie Philippi reached on an infield single. Slanovec singled up the middle to drive in Jasinski and Philippi stole home on a double steal. Tuttle singled to drive in Slanovec for a 4-3 lead.

After Albright went ahead 6-4 in the fourth, the Cougars got one back in the top of the fifth. Kenny Durling led off with an infield single and went to third on Jasinski's single before coming home on Philippi's sacrifice fly.

The Cougars tied it in the eighth when Goncalves singled and came around on a two-out single by Tressa.

MU went ahead 7-6 in the top of the ninth on a lead-off walk by Durling and a two-out single by Slanovec.

In the 10th, Tuttle led off with a single and Newman drilled a two-out homer to give MU the lead. Newman has 20 career homers and is just one shy of tying Harold Knebel's all-time school record.

MU is 17-14 and will open a three-game Freedom Conference series at home against Delaware Valley, Friday.
