Freedom Conference batting leader Andrew Tressa hit two home runs as the Misericordia University baseball team defeated Delaware Valley in league play, Friday at Anderson Field.

Tressa went 3-for-5 from the plate with four RBIs, and is now hitting an even .500 for the season. Freshman Kenny Durling was also 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

In total, eight Cougars had multiple hits including five players who went 2-for-5: Nate Newman, Bubba Jasinski, Jamie Philippi, Anthony Goncalves and Chris Tuttle. Nate Hamlin was 2-for-6 with two runs scored.

After Delaware Valley's Mike Isgro opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the top of the first, the Cougars jumped all over the Aggies in the bottom of the inning.

Newman hustled out an infield single with one out in the bottom of the first, and Durling doubled in Newman and Hamlin. Later in the inning, Tressa launched a two-run homer to left-center.

By the time the dust had cleared on a frantic half-inning, the Cougars had sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 10 runs on 10 hits and four Aggie errors.

Delaware Valley was down 12-6 when Tressa launched his second homer of the game in the seventh to clinch the victory. Jeff Slanovec sent two fly balls to the deep-center warning track but came just short of clearing the fence himself.

Sophomore Max Weintraub allowed eight hits and three earned runs in six innings to claim the victory. Freshman Will Minderjahn allowed four hits and one earned run over the final three innings of the game.

Each side made six errors and conceded four unearned runs.

The Cougars improve to 18-14, 5-11 and face a must-win doubleheader at Delaware Valley tomorrow.
