The Misericordia University softball team dropped a Freedom Conference doubleheader, Tuesday at King's.
After losing 4-3 in nine innings in the opener, the Cougars allowed nine unearned runs in a 9-4 loss in the nightcap.
Caitlin Cromley had three of MU's five hits and drove in two runs in the opener.
MU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Courtney Novajosky led off with a single and moved to third when
Hollie Sarnak reached on an error. Novajosky scored when
Nicole Wenner was safe on an error and
Gina Urbon walked to load the bases. Cromley singled down the left field line, but a fielder's choice and a groundout ended the inning.
After King's tied the score with a pair of runs in the fourth, the Cougars went ahead 3-2 in the top of the fifth.
Wenner led off with a double to left and scored on Cromley's double to the opposite field.
King's forced extra innings with a lead-off walk and a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh.
The Monarchs won it with a two-out, bases loaded single in the bottom of the ninth
Kat Lucenti scattered eight hits over 8.2 innings to absorb the loss.
In the nightcap, Sarnak,
Nicole Boccia and
Amanda Polaha had two hits for MU.
After falling behind 3-0 in the second inning, the Cougars used a three-run rally in the fourth to tie the score.
Wenner reached on an error and Boccia singled before both runners advanced on Cromley's fly to right.
Jen Cory singled to score Wenner and Cory and Boccia both scored on an overthrow.
King's went ahead 9-3 with six unearned runs after two outs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Cougars are 9-8 overall and 3-3 in the Freedom Conference. MU will travel to Susquehanna, Friday.
