The Misericordia University softball team split a pair of games at the ECAC South Championships, Saturday at Bethany (WV).
The Cougars dropped the opener to Freedom Conference rival DeSales, 3-2, but rebounded for a 5-0 to eliminate Catholic.
Courtney Novajosky and
Gina Urbon both had two hits and two RBIs against Catholic and
Kat Lucenti tossed a three-hitter to tie the school single-season record with her 22nd win.
Caitlin Cromley and
Ashley Ballard both had two hits, including a double, and
Nicole Hoskins added two hits.
MU scored all five of its runs with two outs to improve to 28-13.
Ballard doubled with two outs in the top of the second and came home on Urbon's single up the middle.
Jill Castaldi singled to right and Novajosky followed with a two-run single to give MU a 3-0 lead.
Hoskins singled with one out in the third and scored on Cromley's two-out double for a 4-0 lead.
MU made it 5-0 in the fifth when Hoskins and Cromley singled and Urbon drove in a run with a two-out single.
Against DeSales,
Hollie Sarnak led the Cougars with two hits, including a solor homer.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Novajosky led off the game with a single and moved to second on
Maria Kidron's sacrifice. Sarnak singled and Hoskins followed with a sacrifice fly.
DeSales got all of their runs on a pair of homers in the bottom of the first.
Sarnak ripped a solo homer in the top of the fifth to MU with 3-2.
Lucenti scattered seven hits and didn't allow a run after the first inning.
Misericordia, 28-17, will face DeSales in an elimination for the second consecutive weekend, Sunday at 10:00 with the winner advancing to face top-seeded Bethany.
