Senior
Kim Suchoski scored twice, including a great winner in overtime, as the Misericordia University women's soccer team prevailed 2-1 over Elizabethtown, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
In the 107th minute, Suchoski turned her defender at the top of the box and rifled a shot into the right side of the goal to seal the victory.
After Elizabethtown had taken an eighth-minute lead off a corner kick, Suchoski tied it up for Misericordia just four minutes later. After some nice ball movement by the Cougars,
Laura Roney's hit from the top of the box was saved but not held and the senior was there to finish off the rebound.
There were few chances for either team in the opening period.
Jenica Keister had perhaps the best look when she shot wide left after receiving a pass from
Alyssa Mocion.
After halftime however, the Cougars began to take control of the game, with
Katie Usher forcing a diving save from 20 yards out and
Sam Helmstetter winning several dangerous headers as MU held an 8-2 second half advantage in corner kicks.
Each team shook the crossbar in the second period, with Helmstetter heading off the woodwork in the 47th minute and the Blue Jays doing the same in the 73rd.
Misericordia goalkeeper
Morgan Myers made three saves and played her part in the win with a big-time stop late in the first overtime.
The red-hot Cougars are now 8-1-1 on the season heading into their Freedom Conference opener on Saturday, a massive Homecoming match-up with three-time defending champion Eastern.
