10/4/2011 9:26:00 PM

Haley Ellis scored 2:53 into overtime to lift the Misericordia University field hockey team to a 2-1 win at William Paterson, Tuesday night.

Kelsey DeBruyne added a goal for MU while Hannah Harvey and Emily Foley had assists.

After Paterson took a 1-0 lead on a penalty stroke early in the second half, DeBruyne knocked in a rebound to tie the score just six minutes with an assist from Harvey.

The play originated on a corner from DeBruyne, but Danika Watto's shot was saved.

The Cougars had two scoring chances in the closing minutes of regulation, but shots by Ellis and Samantha Sorokas were both wide right.

Harvey's shot early in OT was blocked, but the Cougars earned a corner just a minute later.  Watto took the corner and Ellis took a pass from Foley for the game-winner.

Haley Brandt made four stops in goal for MU.

The Cougars are 2-7 and will play at Manhattanville, Saturday.
