Cougars Battle to 1-1 Draw With Dickinson

10/5/2011 10:36:00 PM

The Misericordia University men's soccer team tied Dickinson, 1-1, in double overtime, Wednesday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.

Despite holding a commanding 25-7 advantage in shots, the Cougars found themselves trailing for only the second time this season when the Red Devils scored on their first shot late in the first half.

Derek Kachadurian took advantage of an MU turnover and fired a shot that found the back of the net at 33:09.

Andy Bush nearly gave the Cougars an early lead when his shot from the top of the box sailed just wide of goal just 12 seconds into the match.

The Cougars nearly tied the score on back-to-back corners late in the first half.  Rob Wiacek's shot caromed off the crossbar at 41:34 and his shot on the ensuing corner was just high.

Nick Ferguson found Greg Korhonen in the box and his shot inside the far post found the back of the net for the equalizer at 57:23.

MU threatened again off a corner taken by Ferguson that was headed away by the Red Devil's defense at 78:57.

The last chance in regulation for the Cougars was a corner that found Korhonen whose shot was just over the crossbar at 88:31.

Early in the second OT, Korhonen's free kick found Bush, but his header was saved by Dickinson keeper Cody Hickok.

MU's last scoring chance came with four minutes remaining Korhonen again looked for Bush, but Hickok came off his line foil the attempt.

The Cougars, 9-0-1, will be in action again against Manhattanville in a Freedom Conference match, Saturday at 3:30.
