The Misericordia University softball team dropped a doubleheader at York, 6-4, 7-6, Saturday.
Nicole Wenner had three hits in the opener and Jillian Castaldi added two hits.
Amanda Polaha drove in two runs and Jen Cory had a triple for the Cougars.
In the nightcap,
Maria Kidron and
Hollie Sarnak had three hits and two RBI and
Caitlin Cromley added three hits.
York scored four times in the top of the fourth to overcome a one-run deficit to win the opener.
Trailing 6-3, the Cougars rallied for a run and had the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh. Kidron singled and Sarnak was hit by a pitch before Wenner singled to lead the bases with nobody out.
After a strikeout and a fielder's choice, Polaha drew two-out RBI-walk, but the rally ended there.
York took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second and the Cougars tied it in their half. Wenner led off with a single and moved to second on a ground out and advanced to third on a fly to right before coming home on Polaha's single.
York went up 2-1 in the third and the Cougars again responded with a run in the bottom of the frame.
Emily Hullings doubled and scored on Wenner's single.
MU took a 3-2 lead in the fourth when Castaldi singled and came around to score on Cory's triple.
Cromley was the tough-luck loser, allowing just one earned run as the Spartans took advantage of three MU errors.
The Cougars grabbed an early 4-1 lead in the nightcap and again came up short in the bottom of the seventh.
Trailing 7-4 heading into their final at bat, MU scored twice but couldn't push the tying run across the plate.
With one out, Kidron and Sarnak ripped back-to-back doubles to bring the tying run to the plate. One out later, Cromley delivered an RBI-single, but she was stranded at first base.
Down 1-0, Cromley led off the second with a single and Shawna Beil and Castaldi walked to load the bases. After a fielder's choice forced Cromley at home,
Chelsea Morris pinch-hit single drove in a run and Kidron followed with a two-run single. Sarnak concluded the rally with a single to center.
