Moravian rallied for a 5-3 non-league win over the Misericordia University baseball team, Wednesday afternoon in Bethlehem.
The Cougars loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the ninth inning, but could only manage one run.
Ryan Cacchioli and
Andrew Tressa both had two hits to pace the Cougars offense.
Pete Doggett allowed just one hit and one run over five innings on the mound.
Trailing 5-2 entering the ninth inning,
Zach Myers led off with a pinch-hit single and moved to second on Tressa's single.
After Ken Durling reached on an error to load the bases, Newman drew a walk to force in a run and make it 5-3.
The Greyhounds, however, induced a pitcher-to-home-to-first double play and a fly out to end the threat.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the top of third when Cacchioli led off with a single to right field and moved to second on
Mike Impellittiere's sacrifice bunt. Tressa put MU ahead with an RBI-single to right-center.
Tied at 1-1,
Nate Newman walked to lead off the sixth before stealing second base and moving to third on a throwing error. One out later, Newman came home on Dan Price's sacrifice fly to center field.
Moravian took a 4-2 lead with a three-run seventh-inning rally and added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.
MU, 9-5, will open a three-game Freedom Conference series at King's, Friday at 3:30.
