The Misericordia University softball team split a doubleheader at Delaware Valley, Monday. The Cougars won the opener, 11-0, in six innings before dropping the nightcap, 7-2.
Jill Castaldi had four hits and drove in three runs in the opener, including a double and a homer.
Maria Kidron had three hits and
Hollie Sarnak added two hits.
Nicole Wenner and
Sami Cragle both doubled.
Caitlin Cromley tossed a four-hitter to earn the win.
Kidron added two hits in the nightcap and
Jess Campbell hit a two-run homer.
In the opener, the Cougars used a six-run sixth inning to put the game away.
Kidron led off with an infield single and went to third on
Kat LaBrie's pinch-hit single before Sarnak walked to load the bases. Wenner drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and
Maggy Hanlon followed with an RBI-single to left center.
After a run scored when Cromley reached on an error, Castaldi drilled a three-run homer to center field.
MU took a 2-0 lead in the second when Nicole Boccia led off with a walk and pinch-runner
Marissa Chiampi to moved to second on Cromley's sacrifice. Cragle doubled to left center to get the Cougars on the board and Castaldi and Kidron followed with singles to make it 2-0.
The Cougars added three runs in the fourth when Castaldi doubled with one out and Jen Cory reached on an infield single before Kidron singled to load the bases.
After pinch-hitter
Jess Campbell drew an RBI-walk, Sarnak drove in another run on a fielder's choice and Wenner doubled to left field to make it 5-0.
In the nightcap, Del Val took a 3-0 lead in the first before Campbell's homer got MU within 3-2 in the top of the second.
The Aggies scored four more in the third before Cromley came on to toss 3.1 innings of shutout relief.
MU, 11-11, will host Scranton, Tuesday at 3:00.
