Andrew Tressa's RBI-double in the top of the sixth inning was the difference as the Misericordia University baseball team won its seventh-consecutive Freedom Conference game, 4-3 at Wilkes on Friday.
After freshman
Joe Tagliarini doubled and advanced to third, Tressa brought him home with a two-bagger that broke a 3-3 tie.
Ace Patrick Clark (4-1) continued to eat crucial innings for the Cougars, striking out six in seven frames. Sophomore Matthew Karabin threw two one-hit innings to earn his fifth save of the season, putting him within one of the Misericordia single-season record.
Senior
Nate Newman was 2-for-4 and homered in the victory. Tressa was 1-for-3, while junior
Nate Hamlin was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Newman opened the scoring in the top of the second, launching a solo homer over Wilkes' high left field fence. Hamlin then singled and scored on Tagliarini's single to make it 2-0, before
Ryan Cacchioli knocked in William Minderjahn for a third run.
The Colonels grabbed three in the top of the fourth to tie the score and set up Tressa's heroics.
MU (16-6, 7-1) is in first place in the Freedom and will host Wilkes for a doubleheader, tomorrow at 1 PM.
