The Misericordia University softball team scored three times in the top of the 11th as the Cougars boosted their playoff chances with a 7-5 win at league-leading Manhattanville.

Sophomore Caitlin Cromley (10-6) lasted all 11 frames, allowing just five hits and three earned runs while striking out 10.

Senior Nicole Wenner was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and knocked in two runs. Another senior, Hollie Sarnak, was 2-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored, while freshman Emily Hullings was 2-for-5.

Misericordia's big break came when Hullings struck out in the 11th but reached first base safely on a passed ball to load the bases. From there, seniors Sarnak and Wenner recorded RBI singles before Hullings walked home for a 7-4 Cougar lead.

The Valiants grabbed one run in the bottom of the inning, but couldn't replicate their comeback in the 10th, when they answered Sarnak's run with an RBI single.

MU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Hullings scored on a walk and Cromley helped her cause by knocking in Sarnak.

The Valiants took the lead on a three-run homer in the fourth, but Wenner rescued Misericordia by singling in Maria Kidron with the Cougars down to their final two outs.

There was a second game scheduled, but it was rained out. MU (13-12, 5-4) is still in fifth place in the Freedom Conference but now sits just a half-game out of second place with five contests remaining. Misericordia travels to Lycoming on Monday.
