The Misericordia University softball team was swept at DeSales Saturday, losing 9-2 and 4-3 in a Freedom Conference doubleheader.
MU was down 4-1 in the second game but rallied in the top of the sixth. Freshman
Sami Cragle and sophomore
Caitlin Cromley each launched solo home runs to pull Misericordia within one, but the Cougars couldn't complete the comeback in the seventh inning despite getting the tying run on base.
Junior
Maria Kidron also hit a solo homer, in the third inning, as MU totaled three bombs in the game. Freshman pitcher
Jess Armillay allowed three earned runs and struck out three in six innings of work.
Game one was more lopsided, with DSU jumping out to an 8-0 lead after four innings. Misericordia was two outs from the mercy rule in the top of the fifth but showed determination, with
Nicole Wenner knocking in
Maria Kidron and
Hollie Sarnak scoring on a wild pitch to keep the Cougars alive.
Sarnak was a blistering 4-for-4 in the first game, with a pair of doubles.
Misericordia is 5-9, 2-2 and travels to Elmira tomorrow.
