The Misericordia University softball team used the long ball to complete a sweep at Elmira, 2-1, 4-3, Sunday.
Hollie Sarnak and
Caitlin Cromley both hit two-run homers in the nightcap and
Jess Armillay scattered eight hits to earn the win.
Sarnak, Cromley and Nicole Boccia all had two hits in the opener and Cromley scattered eight hits to earn the complete-game win.
Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning of the nightcap,
Emily Hullings led off with a single before Sarnak drilled a two-run homer to tie the score.
Nicole Wenner singled and Cromley put MU ahead 4-2 with a two-run homer.
Jess Armillay scattered eight hits to earn the win.
In the opener, the Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the second when
Nicole Wenner led off with a single and moved to second one out later on Boccia's single. After both runners advanced on a passed ball,
Jess Campbell singled to drive in a run.
MU added an insurance run in the fifth when
Chelsea Morris drew a two-out, pinch-hit walk. Shawna Beil re-entered and came around to score on Sarnak's double.
Cromley allowed a lead-off homer in the bottom of the seventh, but escaped further damage to earn the win.
MU, 7-9, will travel to Albright, Monday.
