The Misericordia University baseball team dropped a doubleheader at FDU-Florham, 7-2, 16-5, to slip into second place in the Freedom Conference, Saturday.
Nate Hamlin had three hits in the opener for the Cougars and
Jeff Slanovec added two hits.
Slanovec hit a solo homer in the nightcap and
D.J. Kelleher had two hits.
MU took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game one when
Kenny Durling reached on an error and moved to second on
Andres Gonzalez' single. Slanovec put the Cougars ahead with a single up the middle.
FDU tied in the bottom of the inning and went ahead 2-1 in the fourth before plating five runs in the bottom of sixth for a 7-1 lead.
The Cougars added a run in the seventh when Slanovec singled and eventually came home on Hamlin's single.
In the nightcap, FDU grabbed a 6-0 lead after one inning and went ahead 13-2 after two.
MU, 21-11, will host a doubleheader against DeSales in a battle for first place, at Roosevelt Park in Swoyersville, Sunday at 1:00.
