MU Softball Advances Behind Cromley, Sarnak

Caitlin Cromley pitched and hit the Misericordia University softball team to a 4-2 win over top-seeded Neumann in the opening round of the ECAC South Championships, Wednesday afternoon.

Cromley had a career-high 14 strikeouts and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and helped her own cause with a two-run homer.

Hollie Sarnak added a two-run homer as the Cougars advanced to the weekend's final four at the highest remaining seed.

With one out in the top of the first, Emily Hullings reached on an error and Sarnak drilled her ninth homer of the season to left field.

The score stood until the sixth when Nicole Boccia singled through the right side with two outs and Cromley homered to center to make it 4-0.

Cromley carried a no-hitter into the seventh before allowing three hits and a pair of runs.

Misericordia improved to 23-16 and will play fifth-seeded Wilson College, Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Alvernia.  Second-seeded Alvernia will host third-seeded DeSales at 11:00 a.m.  The first round loser's will meet in an elimination game at 1:00 p.m. with the winner's bracket final set for 3:00 p.m.
