10-Run Inning Gives Softball Split With Susquehanna

5/2/2011 7:33:13 PM

An offensive outburst in the second game gave the Misericordia University softball team a split with Susquehanna as MU recovered from a 4-0 loss to win 10-0.

MU exploded for 10 runs on eight hits in the first inning of the nightcap, and was also aided by three Susquehanna errors.

Maria Kidron, Emily Hullings, Hollie Sarnak and Caitlin Cromley all had hits and Misericordia led 3-0 before Kat LaBrie ripped a two-RBI double and Sami Cragle launched a two-run homer to left field.

By the time Sarnak came home on an error (her second run of the inning), the Cougars had a double-digit lead.

Sarnak was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Wenner, LaBrie and Cragle were all 1-for-2 with two RBIs each.

Freshman Jess Armillay (5-6) struck out three over four scoreless innings to earn the victory.

In the opener the Cougars fell 4-0. Nicole Boccia and Wenner were each 1-for-2 at the plate in the loss.

Despite Boccia picking off the lead runner with the bases loaded, the Crusaders still scored twice in the top of the first inning. Misericordia also loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame, but stranded them.

MU is 20-16 and concludes its regular season tomorrow with a visit from Scranton.
