The Misericordia field hockey team dropped its home opener to unbeaten Montclair State, 5-0, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Leading 1-0 at halftime, the Red Hawks broke the game open with four second half goals to improve to 6-0.
Trailing 1-0 midway through the first half, the Cougars got a solid scoring chance with the Montclair goalie down, but the Red Hawks defense snuffed the shot attempt by
Courtney Thomas.
MU had another chance with a corner with six minutes left in the first half when Sam Sorokas ripped a shot just wide of the cage.
Three minutes later, Sorokas made a nice centering pass, but was unable to connect.
Misericordia will host Oneonta, Wednesday at 4:00.
