Box Score The Misericordia University football team fell to 0-7 with a 70-0 loss at Delaware Valley, Saturday.
In their first season of play, the Cougars are 0-6 in the MAC while the Aggies improved to 5-2 (5-1 MAC).
Delaware Valley scored 21 points in the each of the first two quarters for a 42-0 halftime lead. The Aggies added two scores in the third and fourth quarters.
The Cougars managed just six first downs with quarterback
Jeff Puckett leading the team in rushing with 38 yards on nine carries.
Michael Comerford led the defense with nine tackles, including eight solo stops.
Hunter Pates had seven tackles and
Tim Martin and
Brandon Salazar had five each.
After taking the opening kickoff, the Cougars picked up a first down on the first drive. Puckett ran for three yards on the first play from scrimmage and hit
Shannon Johnson for a nine-yard gain and a first down at their own 37 yard line.
The Cougars were forced to punt and
Jeff Smith recovered a fumble at the Del Val 48. MU was unable to take advantage of the turnover and punted the ball away.
Starting at their own 25, MU picked up a pair of first downs on their final possession of the first half.
Puckett ran for 13 yards on first down to the 38.
Following a false start penalty,
Frank Santarsiero picked up 19 yards on two carries for a first down across midfield.
He added a five yard gain on the next play, but a penalty backed the ball up to the MU 42 and the drive stalled.
The Cougars had a 10-play drive into Del Val territory late in the third quarter.
On third and five from their own 36, Puckett ran for 10 yards to convert at the 46 yard line.
Santarsiero gained five yards and Puckett hit
Kurt Kowalski for a four-yard pickup to set up a fourth-and-one at the Del Val 45.
Puckett again converted with a two-yard rush, but the Cougars were forced to punt three plays later.
