Nick vonEgypt had a goal and an assist as the Misericordia University men's soccer team clinched another trip to the NCAA Championships with a 3-1 win over FDU-Florham, Sunday at Mangelsdorf Field in the Freedom Conference title match.

Game MVP Dan Pinto and Josh Pfahl both added goals as the Cougars won their second straight Freedom championship and fourth in five years in the league.

Barry Fitzgerald made four saves in goal as MU improved to 13-6-2.

MU had a 19-12 advantage in shots and held an 8-4 edge in corners.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead when Chris Panagacos served a ball from the left flank and Pinto one-timed it home from eight yards out at 32:38.

vonEgypt made it 2-0 early in the second half when the battle for a loose ball in front of the net with FDU keeper Tim Kirk and buried it into an empty net at 47:22.

Midway through the second half, vonEgypt served a ball from the right flank and Pfahl teed it up and drilled just under the crossbar from 20 yards out to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead.

Brian Morgan got FDU on the board when he headed home a corner from Ryan Hurdes in the 79th minute.

Kirk, who left the game after being injured on vonEgypt's goal, made three saves for FDU-Florham.  Andrew D'Angelo made four stops over the final 42 minutes.

The game began sluggishly as neither team managed a shot until FDU-Florham's Emin Matezic ripped a direct shot from 30 yards out right at MU's Barry Fitzgerald 10 minutes into the first period.

FDU had another opportunity when Matezic's one-timer from 20 yards out was wide right at 17:00.
vonEgypt gave Misericordia a chance less than two minutes later when he ripped a shot at Kirk from 25 yards out at 18:34.

FDU's Josh Corpuz ripped a shot that was deflected off the crossbar by Fitzgerald and led to a Devils' corner that was eventually headed away by Greg Korhonen 20 minutes into the game.

vonEgypt gave MU another good scoring chance at 25:50 when he grounded a shot near the right post, but A.J. Carnevale cleared the ball of the end line.

The Devils threatened at the 10:00 mark when Hurdes had a point-blank shot but Fitzgerald made a kick save.

Just two minutes before his goal, Pfahl had another close call for the Cougars when he dribbled through the Devils' defense and fired a shot that forced D'Angelo to make a diving stop near the left post.
