Box Score Nikki Baro had 19 points to lead five players in double figures as the Misericordia University women's basketball team improved to 5-0 with a 72-64 win at Manhattanville, Saturday.
Lauren Smicherko added 18 points and nine rebounds and
Tyann McDaniel had 11 points.
Kayla Sileo had 10 points and
Hannah Seely added a team-high 13 rebounds.
After a back-and-forth first half left the Cougars trailing 30-28 at halftime, MU took the lead for good on a Smicherko three-pointer to open the second half.
Three straight layups gave the Cougars a 37-30 lead and back-to-back jumpers by Nikki and
Sam Baro made it 41-31 with just over four minutes gone in the second half.
Sileo converted a three-point play to put MU ahead 48-36 and two free throws by
Nikki Baro made it 52-36 with 12:07 remaining.
Manhattanville rallied to pull within five, 64-59, with 4:19 to go, but Sileo answered with a layup and Smicherko and McDaniel combined for six free throws down the stretch.
Misericordia, 2-0 in the Freedom, will host Marywood in a non-league contest, Monday at 6:00.
