The Misericordia University softball team swept Delaware Valley, 6-0 and 6-4, in their Freedom Conference opener, Tuesday at Anderson Field.
Caitlin Cromley earned the win in both games, allowing no runs in 9.1 innings of work and Samantha Hare and
Jill Castaldi both had three RBI.
In the second inning of game one,
Kat LaBrie doubled down the left field line and advanced to third on a Cromley single.
Megan Hardy sacrificed to right field to score LaBrie and gave MU the early 1-0 lead. Castaldi ripped a triple to right center field to drive Cromley in and put the Cougars up by two, after two.
Misericordia scored four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the victory.
In game two, MU struck first when
Jennifer Cory led off the bottom of the third with a rocket over the right field fence.
In the top of the fourth, the Aggies were threatening with the bases loaded and one out.
Jess Armillay struck out a batter and forced a ground ball to short to escape the jam unharmed.
In the bottom of the fourth, Hare singled up the middle to score
Amanda Polaha and MU capitalized on two more errors by Del Val to make it, 4-0, after four innings of play.
Del Val scored four runs in the top of the fifth, but the Cougars answered when LaBrie hit a sacrifice fly to left field and scored
Amber Woodling to go up by one, with two innings remaining.
Mallory Getts drove in another run and Cromley shutdown the Aggies to hold on for a 6-4 victory.
The Cougars are 7-7 (2-0) and will be in action again when they battle the Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy, Wednesday.
