MU Softball Wins Sixth Straight

The Misericordia University softball team won its sixth straight game with a doubleheader sweep at Gwynedd-Mercy, 6-3, 14-2.

Caitlin Cromley tossed a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the opener and helped her own cause with two hits, including a solo homer.

Cromley was part of the first 10 outs of the game via strikeout or putout.

Megan Hardy drove in two runs with her first career homer.

In the nightcap, Kristi Seiler had four hits and three RBI and Jill Castaldi had three hits and drove in three runs.

Kat LaBrie and Amanda Polaha both added two hits to make a winner of Mindy LaBarre who scattered four hits over four innings.

The Cougars went ahead 3-0 in the opener with a three-run third inning.  Amber Woodling led off with a triple down the right field line and scored when Jen Cory reached on an error.

Mallory Getts walked and Cromley drove in two runs with a two-out single to left.

MU added two more in the fourth when LaBrie doubled and came home on Hardy's homer to left.

The Griffins got on the board with a run in the fifth and added two more in the sixth.

Cromley gave herself an insurance run with a solo shot in the top of the seventh.

In the nightcap, MU took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second.  Seiler singled and moved to third on LaBrie's single and both runners came home on Shawnna Beil's single to right.

Jen Cory singled and came around to score on Castaldi's triple down the right field line.

MU's four-run third inning was highlighted by Castaldi's two-run single.

Seiler had an RBI-single in the fourth and the Cougars took advantage of two Griffins errors to take a 10-2 lead.

The Cougars put the game away with four more in the fifth.

Castaldi led off with another triple and Polaha, Seiler and Woodling all drove in runs.

Misericordia, 9-7, will return to Freedom Conference action when then host Manhattanville, Saturday.
