Slanovec's Two Home Runs Propel MU Past Manhattanville

The Misericordia University baseball team defeated Freedom opponent Manhattanville, 8-6, Friday at Roosevelt Field.

Pat Clark earned the win, Jeff Slanovec went 2-2 with two home runs and three RBI and Gabe Noyalis hit a home run and scored two runs to help propel MU past the Valiants.

Manhattanville got on the board in the top of the first, but Slanovec hit the first of his two homeruns to tie it after two innings of play.

Manhattanville scored two runs in the top of the third, but in the bottom of the fourth, Kenny Durling hit a double to center, Bubba Jasinski walked and Noyalis was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs.  Slanovec flied out to center to score Durling.

After an error by the third baseman, MU had runners on second and third with two outs.  Nate Hamlin ripped a line drive through the left side to score Noyalis and Chris Tuttle to take a 4-3 lead after four innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, Noyalis and Slanovec hit back-to-back home runs to take a 7-3 lead into the sixth inning.

In the top of the sixth Manhattanville was threatening with runners on second and third with no outs.  Clark forced two pop outs and a ground ball to escape the inning unharmed. 

The Valiants scored three runs in the top of the seventh, but Tuttle laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Bryce Frankenfield to cap off the scoring at 8-6.

Corey Lee pitched 2.2 shutout innings to earn the save and give MU the victory.

These two teams will face off in a double header at Manhattanville, tomorrow.
