Slanovec Lifts MU to Eighth Straight Win

3/27/2012 6:51:00 PM

Jeff Slanovec drove in the game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning to lift the 12th-ranked Misericordia University baseball team to a 6-5 win at Moravian, Tuesday.

Slanovec drove in two runs on three hits and Kenny Durling added three hits as the Cougars won their eighth straight game to improve to 19-2.

Mike Pena picked up the win with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief and Corey Lee earned his third save with a scoreless 10th.

Misericordia went ahead in the top of the first when Dylan Mazzo doubled with one out and came home on Durling's two-out single to left.

The Cougars made it 2-0 in the second when Bubba Jasinski drew a lead-off walk and stole second before Nate Hamlin ripped a double to left field.

After Moravian scored a run in the bottom of the second, MU tallied twice in the top of the fourth.  Jasinski reached on an error and advanced on Slanovec's single through the left side.  Hamlin's sacrifice bunt was misplayed to load the bases and Chris Tuttle reached on a fielder's choice as Jasinski and Durling scored on an error to make it 4-1.

The Cougars added a run in the fifth when Andrew Tressa led off with a double, moved to third on Durling's single and came home on Slanovec's two-out single.

Moravian answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth and rallied to tie the score 5-5 with three runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Pete Doggett scattered four hits and struck out five over 7.1 innings before Pena came on in the eighth.

Misericordia will open a three-game series at FDU-Florham, Friday and will host the Devils for a doubleheader, Saturday at Roosevelt Park.
