The Misericordia University softball team split a doubleheader with York, Thursday at Anderson Field.
In game one,
Kat LaBrie went 4-4 with a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh, but MU couldn't complete the come-from-behind victory. In game two, MU won 14-5 (5 inn.) on 14 hits with
Caitlin Cromley leading the way with three hits, three RBI and three runs.
The Spartans went into the bottom of the seventh up by four. With two outs, Cromley reached on an error, Seiler was walked and LaBrie ripped a home run over the left-center field fence to pull within one.
Megan Hardy followed that with a single to try and keep the rally going, but a groundout ended the game.
In game two, York jumped on top early with three runs in the top of the first. MU answered when Cromley doubled to right field to score
Mallory Getts.
Kristi Seiler then singled to plate Cromley and
Amanda Polaha. LaBrie drove in Seiler to cap off the four-run inning.
York tied it up in the top of the third, but the Cougars answered in a big way in the bottom of the inning. Cromley hit a one-out solo home run and Shawanna Beil ripped a three-run shot over the left-center field fence. Jen Cory and
Jill Castaldi both scored on wild pitches, and Cromley forced an error to score Getts and cap off a seven-run third, and take an 11-4 lead.
The Spartans scored a run in the top of the fifth, but MU answered again. With runners on first and second,
Schyler Yatsko hit a ground-rule double over the left-center field fence to drive home
Amber Woodling and put runners on second and third with two outs. LaBrie singled to right field to drive in both Yatsko and Cromley to give the Cougars a 14-5 win.
Jess Armillay allowed two runs on four hits to earn the win in game two and improve to 5-5.
MU is now 18-12 and will honor its senior on Senior Appreciation Day against DeSales, Saturday at 1:00.
