Caitlin Cromley hit two home runs to lead MU past Albright, 11-10 and 5-4, Wednesday at Anderson Field.
Cromley went 7-8 with two home runs, four RBI and four runs while
Mallory Getts went 4-8 with four runs and three RBI. Cromley hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh in the nightcap.
In game one, MU jumped out to an early lead when Cromley singled to left center to drive home Getts and make it 1-0 after the first inning.
In the bottom of the third,
Jill Castaldi earned a leadoff walk and Getts homered over the center field fence to tack on two more runs. With the bases loaded and one out,
Megan Hardy drew a walk to plate Cromley, and
Shawnna Beil singled to drive in two.
Laura Gronski grounded out to the shortstop to drive in Beil to make it 7-0 after three.
Albright got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth, but MU responded. Cromley singled through the left side to plate Getts, and
Amanda Polaha scored on a sacrifice fly by
Kristi Seiler. With
Jennifer Cory on second,
Megan Hardy ripped a double over the left fielder's head to plate Cory and make it a 10-1 game going into the top of the fifth.
The Lions responded with four runs in the top of the fifth to pull within five.
In the bottom of the sixth, Cromley homered over the center field fence to give MU what proved to be the winning run.
Albright rallied for five more runs in the top of the seventh, but Jen Cory threw the tying run out at the plate to end the game.
In game two, the Lions jumped out early with a two-run home run in the top of the first.
In the bottom of the inning, with
Jill Castaldi on second and Cromley on first, Seiler doubled to left center to drive them both in and knot it at two after the first inning of play.
Cory singled and was bunted over to second to be driven in by Getts in the bottom of the second. Castaldi then tripled to right field to plate Getts and cap off a two-run inning to give MU a 4-2 lead after two.
Albright tied it in the top of the sixth, but on the third pitch of the bottom of the seventh, Cromley homered over the left field fence for the win.
On the mound, Cromley (13-7) earned the win in game one and Armillay (7-5) earned the win in game two in relief of
Mindy LaBarre.
The Cougars improved to 22-12 and will return to Freedom Conference play when they face King's Saturday.
