The Misericordia University softball team split a doubleheader at King's Saturday to remain in a first place tie and clinch a Freedom Conference post-season berth.
The Cougars rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win the opener, 3-2, but their rally fell short in a 5-3 loss in the nightcap.
Amanda Polaha had two hits and drove in the game-winning run in the top of the sixth in the opener.
Kristi Seiler had a solo homer and
Sam Hare drove in a run.
Caitlin Cromley scattered eight hits and aided her own cause with several outstanding defensive plays to earn the win.
Tied 2-2,
Schyler Yatsko led off the sixth with a single to right and moved to second on
Mallory Getts' two-out single.
Polaha followed with a single to right to put MU ahead, 3-2.
The Cougars got on the board in the fourth when
Kat LaBrie singled and pinch-runner
Shawnna Beil moved to second on
Megan Hardy's single. Hare singled down the left field line to make it 2-1.
Seiler tied with a solo homer in the fifth.
In the nightcap, King's scored three runs in the bottom of the first and eventually built a 5-0 lead.
Cromley hit a solo homer in the sixth and Yatsko led off the seventh with a pinch-hit homer to make it 5-2.
Jill Castaldi, Polaha and Seiler all singled to make it 5-3, but the Cougars left the tying runs on base.
Polaha, Cromley, Seiler and LaBrie all had two hits in the nightcap.
MU, 23-13 (9-3 Freedom), will wrap up its Freedom Conference schedule at Eastern, Saturday.
