The Misericordia University baseball team set a school-record for wins in a season and clinched the top seed in the Freedom Championships with a sweep of Eastern, Saturday afternoon at Roosevelt Field.

The Cougars won game one 9-1 and took the nightcap, 2-1, to improve to 32-6 (18-3).  Pat Clark earned the win in game one to give him the most wins in school-history (17) and Kenny Durling brook the single-season RBI record (48) with an RBI.

In the bottom of the first inning of game one, Durling walked and stole second, and Jeff Slanovec singled through the right side to drive him home and take an early 1-0 lead.

Clark pitched four scoreless innings until the Eagles got on the board in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the fifth, Andrew Tressa doubled and Durling drew a walk to put runners on first and third with no outs.

Slanovec then homered over the fight field fence to extend MU's lead.

Ryan Cacchioli singled to right field to plate Nate Hamlin, and Bubba Jasinski singled through the right side to drive in Cacchioli and go up, 6-1, after five innings of play.

Eastern was threatening in the top of the sixth with runners on first and second and no outs.  The Eagles' first baseman singled to left, and as the runner was rounding third, Hamlin fired home to beat the runner and spoil the scoring chance.

In the bottom of the sixth, Mike Impellittiere singled and a fielder's choice and an error loaded the bases with no outs.

Durling hit a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in the record-breaking RBI.  Slanovec singled through the left side to drive in Tressa, and Hamlin sacrificed to center to bring Bryce Frankenfield home.

Clark pitched 6.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts.

In game two, Matt Karabin earned the win and Gabe Noyalis received the save to defeat the Eagles 2-1.

In the top of the fourth, Eastern got on the board first with a home run over the right field fence.  The Cougars answered with three consecutive singles, with Cacchioli driving in Slanovec to knot it at one a piece.  Bubba Jasinski's sacrifice fly to right field plated Hamlin and gave MU the two runs they needed.

With a runner on third and two outs, Gabe Noyalis came in to relieve Karabin after 5.2 innings of work.  Noyalis forced a fly out to end the inning and then retired three of four batters in the top of the ninth to earn the save and secure the win for MU.

Misericordia will wrap-up regular season play with a non-conference game against #7 Cortland State, Tuesday.
