Cougars Split, Earn Second Seed

The Misericordia University softball team ended the Freedom regular season with a split at Eastern.

After surrendering a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to drop the opener, 6-2, the Cougars rallied to win the nightcap, 3-2.

MU is 24-14 and finished in a three-way tie for first in the Freedom at 10-4.

Caitlin Cromley had two hits, including a solo homer, as the Cougars took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh of the first game.

Amanda Polaha and Samantha Hare added two hits.

MU took a lead in the top of the first inning in the opener when Cromley drilled a two-out solo homer.

The Cougars added an insurance run in the seventh when Hare singled and move to second on an error before coming around on Polaha's single to left.

Jess Armillay scattered six hits and MU used a three-run sixth inning rally to take the nightcap.

Mallory Getts, Kristi Seiler, Kat LaBrie and Shawnna Beil all had hits for the Cougars.

Down 2-0, the Cougars rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth.

Getts led off with a single and moved to second when Polaha reached on an error.  One out later, Seiler drove in a run with a single to center and the Cougars tied it when the ball was misplayed.

After LaBrie's single, Hare hit a sacrifice fly to center to plate the winning run.

Misericordia will wrap up the regular season at Susquehanna, Tuesday, and will play King's in the first round of the Freedom Championships, Friday at Manhattanville.
