Alvernia Attack Too Much for MU

9/11/2012 10:00:00 PM

The Misericordia University women's field hockey team couldn't withstand a strong Alvernia attack, as the Cougars fell to the Crusaders, 4-0, Tuesday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.

Taylor Eichelberger scored a pair of goals in the first eight minutes to key the Crusader victory, while Lauren Guido and Erin Solley also added goals.

Eichelberger gave the Crusaders the lead in the fifth minute, scoring off a corner from Solley. Less than three minutes later, Cougar goalkeeper Haley Brandt made a great save on another Eichelberger shot off a corner, but Eichelberger was there to clean up her own miss, extending the lead to 2-0.

Guido added her goal in the ninth minute, while the Solley closed the scoring with a goal of her own in the 32nd minute.

Brandt finished with 10 saves in goal, stopping a number of strong attacks. The Crusaders outshot the Cougars 16-3 and 14-1 on goal. They also held a 10-6 advantage in penalty corners, including a 9-0 advantage in the first half, leading to three of their four goals.

The Cougars take to the road for the first time in 2012 on Saturday when they travel to #9 Montclair State.
