Cougars Drops Homecoming Game to Stevenson

Box Score The Misericordia University football team had its closest game of the season in a 35-7 loss to Stevenson in front of a Homecoming crowd, Saturday at Mangelsdorf Field.

The Cougars scored their first home touchdown of the season on Jeff Puckett's four-yard run midway through the third quarter.

Cody Lamoreaux led the Cougars with 79 yards rushing and Puckett added 64.  Robin Custodio had 58 yards on the ground.

Misericordia took the opening kickoff and drove into Stevenson territory. 

Puckett hit Paul Brace for a 15 yard gain and first down at the MU 36 yard line.

Lamoreaux and Frank Santarsiero combined for three rushes and another first down and Lamoreaux followed with a 13 yard gain off right tackle to the Stevenson 40.

But, the drive stalled when Stevenson intercepted a Puckett pass on the next play.

The Mustangs went 64 yards, including a 45-yard TD run by K.K. Smith to take a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

After a Misericordia three-and-out, Stevenson went ahead 13-0 with 1:37 left in the quarter.

The score held until Stevenson's first drive on the second half when they scored to go up, 20-0, with 10:33 to go in the third quarter.

MU responded with a 75-yard scoring drive that took nearly eight minutes.

Lamoreaux's eight-yard run gave the Cougars a first down at their own 36.

Three more runs by Lamoreaux took the Cougars to midfield.

Puckett scrambled for a first down into Stevenson territory and Lamoreaux went off the left side for a seven yard gain.

Puckett picked up 11 yards on a quarterback draw to the Stevenson 29 and Lamoreaux banged his way for 11 yards to the 18-yard line.

Puckett rolled to his right and scampered 14 yards before going out of bounds at the four.

Puckett went four yards on the next play for an MU touchdown with 2:44 left in the third quarter.

Stevenson added a pair of TD's in the fourth quarter.

Misericordia, 0-5 (0-4 MAC), will travel to Wilkes, Saturday.
