Scranton FH Tops MU

The Misericordia University field hockey team suffered its first loss of the season, 4-2, to the University of Scranton, Wednesday afternoon at McGeehan Field.

Laura Megargel scored twice for Scranton while Gretchen Kempf and Corinne O'Kane added goals.

Terra Hall and Allison Alexander had goals for Misericordia.

Maria Begliomini had three saves in goal for Scranton as the Royals improved to 2-1.

Misericordia had a good scoring chance in the opening minutes as Lindsay Hischak and Rebecca Hindman made a good run, but Begliomini cleared the ball from in front of her own cage before the Cougars managed shot.

Scranton's Alyssa Fania had the first shot of the from close range nearly eight minutes into the first half, but MU goalie Grace Riker swatted the shot away.

Megargel got Scranton on the board with an unassisted goal with an unassisted goal with 20:18 to go in the half and MU's Terra Hall responded with an unassisted goal just over a minute later.

Scranton went up 2-1 with eight minutes remaining in the half and the Royals made it 3-1 with a penalty stroke just two minutes later.

After Scranton added a goal with just over 15 minutes left, Alexander scored for MU with 10 minutes remaining.

Misericordia, 2-1, will host Juniata, Friday at 4:00.
