The Misericordia University field hockey team outshot Juniata but couldn't find the net, falling to the Eagles 1-0 Friday evening at McGeehan Field.
The game was scoreless until the 30
th minute when Juniata junior Emily Anne Moore slid a pass from Sara Bilheimer past Cougars' goalkeeper
Grace Riker.
From there, the game would be a battle of defenses. Misericordia held a 9-8 advantage in total shots, while each team had four shots on goal.
MU's best scoring opportunity came in the closing seconds, when a Juniata foul gave the Cougars a penalty corner. MU had a look, but the Eagles were able to clear the ball out of bounds to end the game.
Riker had three saves in goal for the Cougars, while Juniata goalkeepers Janelle Howard and Shelby Miller combined for the shutout.
MU returns to action tomorrow against Kean at 3:30 PM on Mangelsdorf Field.
