Big Second Half Leads Del Val Past MU

Box Score The Misericordia women's basketball team dropped its third straight Freedom Conference game, 73-58, Saturday afternoon at Delaware Valley.

Lauren Smicherko led the Cougars with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Hannah Seely and Kayla Sileo added 16 and 10 points, respectively.

Misericordia led 28-21 at halftime, but Del Val took the lead less than five minutes into the second half.

The Aggies shot 64 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes while the Cougars connected on just 28.9 percent of their shots in the second half.

With both teams struggling early, the Cougars used an 11-2 run to break a 7-7 tie midway through the first half.

Smicherko gave the Cougars a four-point lead with back-to-back layups and drained a three-pointer to make it 16-9 with 7:46 to go.

Caitlin Kessler added a pair of layups during the run, including one to give MU an 18-9 lead with 6:25 left before halftime.

After the Aggies cut the lead to 22-21, the Cougars closed the half on a 6-0 spurt in the final minute.

McDaniel made it 25-21 with a three-pointer and Nikki Baro added a free throw with seven seconds left.

McDaniel picked up a steal and found Seely for a buzzer-beating layup and a 28-21 lead at intermission.

MU, 8-7 overall and 3-3 in the Freedom, will host Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Monday at 7:00 p.m.
