Box Score The Misericordia University women's basketball dropped a heartbreaking 58-56 decision to Susquehanna, despite a furious second-half rally, Wednesday night at the Anderson Center.
Lauren Smicherko led the Cougars with 15 points while
Hannah Seely added 14 points.
Kayla Sileo had eight points and a team-high six rebounds.
Trailing 50-36 with less than minutes to play, the Cougars used a 20-6 run over the final nine minutes to forge a 56-56 tie with 29 seconds remaining.
Susquehanna regained the lead with 13 seconds to play and MU's game-tying attempt was off the mark.
Down 14 points, Sileo began MU's comeback when she converted a Smicherko steal into a layup to ignite a 10-0 run.
Seely scored on a baseline drive and
Nikki Baro put back her own miss to get MU within 50-42, with 8:26 to play.
Seely grabbed an offensive rebound and sank a short jumper and made it 50-46 with a layup off another Smicherko steal.
After a Susquehanna bucket, Sileo drove baseline and Smicherko converted a three-point play to cut the deficit to 52-51with 4:44 to go.
The Crusaders answered with a pair of free throws and McDaniel responded with a long jumper to beat the shot clock and make it 54-53 with 3:31 left.
Susquehanna went ahead 56-53 with 2:21 to go and McDaniel sank a free throw with 1:52 remaining.
Seely tied it, 56-56, with a pair of free throws with 29 seconds to go.
Tied 14-14, Susquehanna used a 23-12 run over the final 11 minutes of the first half to take a 37-26 halftime lead.
The Crusaders maintained a double-digit lead for much of the second half before the Cougars mounted their charge over the final nine minutes.
Misericordia, 5-4, will host SUNY-Geneseo, Friday at 6:00.
