Box Score The Misericordia University women's basketball team lost at first place FDU-Florham, 64-35, Saturday afternoon.
Lauren Smicherko had 11 points and eight rebounds to lead the Cougars who fell to 9-9 overall and 3-5 in the Freedom Conference.
Sam Baro added seven points and
Caitlin Kessler had six points off the bench.
FDU-Florham took advantage of 26 MU turnovers to improve to 18-1 overall and 8-0 in the Freedom.
The game was back-and-forth over the first 10 minutes before the Devils opened a double digit and never looked back.
Down 6-2 early in the game,
Sam Baro drained a three-pointer to make it 6-5 just four minutes into the contest.
After an FDU bucket, Kessler short jumper kept MU within one, 8-7, with 15:15 to go in the half.
FDU stretched it to 12-7 before
Nikki Baro's free throw cut the deficit to four with 11:23 remaining before halftime.
The Devils answered with a 13-2 run to take a 25-10 lead with 6:12 to go.
Hannah Seely scored back-to-back layups to get within 25-14 with 5:23 to play, but FDU closed the half on a 9-2 spurt for a 34-18 halftime lead.
Misericordia will visit Wilkes, Wednesday.
