McDaniel's Career High Leads MU Women Past Eastern

Box Score Tyann McDaniel scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Misericordia University women's basketball team to a come-from-behind win over Eastern, Wednesday at the Anderson Center.

Hannah Seely added 21 points and a game-high eight rebounds as the Cougars overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to remain unbeaten in the Freedom Conference (3-0).

Lauren Smicherko had nine points and six assists.

Misericordia scored the first six points of the second half and used a 14-6 run to tie the score, 46-46, with 13:01 remaining.

The Cougars finally took the lead, 52-51, on McDaniel's jumper with 11:20 to play, and never trailed again thanks to their 64.3% shooting (18-28) in the second half.

McDaniel drained a three-pointer from the right wing to ignite a 7-0 spurt that gave MU a nine-point edge with just 4:06 to play.

Krissy Hansen followed with a steal and a layup and Kayla Sileo added a layup off a nice feed from McDaniel for a 76-67 advantage.

Eastern responded with a 9-1 run to get within one, 77-76, with 1:43 to go.

Seely sank a pair of free throws to make it 79-76, but Eastern's Kelsi Patton answered with a jumper to get back within one, 79-78, with 1:09 to play.

Seely found McDaniel for a layup and an 81-78 lead with under a minute remaining and Eastern's Tori Grossi made to foul shots to cut it to 81-80 with 45 seconds left.

McDaniel's driving layup with 24 seconds remaining provided the winning margin as the Eagles missed a three-point attempt with six seconds to go.

Despite shooting 50.0% from the floor in the first, the Cougars trailed 40-32 at halftime thanks to Eastern's 14-1 edge in second chance points.

After Caitlin Kessler's short turnaround jumper gave MU an 8-5 lead, the Eagles went on a 10-0 run to take a 15-8 advantage.

McDaniel drained a three-pointer from the right corner and Nikki and Sam Baro followed with back-to-back jumpers to put MU ahead, 16-15.

Misericordia will host FDU-Florham in a battle for first place in the Freedom Conference, Saturday at 1:00.
