vonEgypt's Hat Trick Leads MU Men at Eastern

Box Score Nick vonEgypt recorded a hat trick as the Misericordia University men's soccer team rebounded from its first Freedom Conference loss by knocking off previously unbeaten Eastern, 4-0, Saturday afternoon.

Chris Edkins added a goal and David Malaquias had a pair of assists for the Cougars.

Barry Fitzgerald made four stops in net for the Cougars.

Eastern had two excellent scoring changes in the opening 10 minutes, but MU defenders twice cleared balls of their own end line.

With the match scoreless after 30 minutes, Nick Ferguson played a ball from the left side to Malaquias who found vonEgypt whose shot caromed off an Eastern defender for a 1-0 lead at 30:18.

Edkins headed home a Parker McArdle corner for a 2-0 lead just nine minutes later and the Cougars took that lead to intermission.

Ferguson played a great ball from the right flank and vonEgypt finished it with a diving header for a 3-0 advantage at 58:24.

MU made it 4-0 when Malaquias flicked Mark Ippolito's throw-in to vonEgypt who finished his hat trick at 78:00.

Misericordia improved to 10-4 overall and moved into a first place tie with FDU-Florham at 3-1 in the Freedom.

The Cougars will host DeSales, Tuesday at 7:00.
