Santarsiero, Puckett Have Big Days in MU Loss to Albright

Box Score Despite having two 100-yard rushers, the Misericordia University football team dropped its home finale to Albright, 42-19, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Jeff Puckett led the Cougars with 159 yards to go over the 1,000 yard plateau for the season and Frank Santarsiero added 126 yards on the ground.

Santarsiero was along with Joe Winter, Jake Livingston and Phil Arnold prior to the game as part of Senior Appreciation Day.

After Albright took a 7-0 lead on the opening possession of the game, MU's Chris Kirkland returned the ensuing kickoff 48 yards into Albright territory.

Puckett connected with Tom Stelzer on first down for an 18-yard gain to the Albright 29.

Puckett went over 1,000 yards on his first carry with an eight-yard gain and Santarsiero went 10 yards to set up first and goal at the 10 yard line.

The drive stalled, however, and Albright took over on downs with 5:34 left in the opening quarter.

The Lions went 92 yards in six plays to take a 14-0 lead with 2:43 to in the quarter.

Kirkland returned the kickoff 25 yards to the 30, but a holding penalty backed the Cougars up to their own 20.

Puckett went up the middle for 21 yards to the Albright 41 and Santarsiero picked up 12 yards for a first down at the Albright 47.

Puckett popped his next run outside for a 30-yard gain to the 17 and Santarsiero scooted up the middle for eight yards.

Santarsiero raced around left end to the two yard line and Puckett dove in for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 14-7 with less a minute to play in the quarter.

Albright went ahead 21-7 on its next possession and took advantage of a low snap on a Misericordia punt to make it 28-7.

The Lions closed out the half with a 74-yard scoring drive to take a 35-7 halftime lead.

Misericordia's Matt Martin picked off an Albright pass and returned it 38 yards to the Albright 18 yard line midway through the third quarter.

After a pass interference penalty on the Lions moved the ball to the four yard line, Puckett plunged in for another TD to make it 35-13.

Albright added its final score on a 49-yard scoring strike to TJ Luddy to Daniel McNair to extend the lead to 42-13 with 5:00 left in the third period.

The Cougars forced an Albright punt and took over in Lions territory with Ryan Kurtz at quarterback.

Kurtz picked up 20 yards on four carries and pair of penalties moved the ball to the Albright five yard line and Kurtz took it in from there to make it 42-19.

Ben Camacho and Steve Strobel led the MU defense with six tackles apiece.

Rob Hart, Hunter Pates, Omar Clark and Livingston all had five tackles.
