Box Score The Misericordia University women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 65-59 loss to Lycoming, Sunday afternoon in the Anderson Center.
Sam Baro had a game-high 16 points to lead the Cougars while
Hannah Seely and
Lauren Smicherko added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Smicherko grabbed a defensive rebound and converted a three-point play at the other end to give Misericordia a 42-41 lead with 11:38 to play, but it was the Cougars' last lead of the day.
After Lycoming pulled ahead 52-44, Misericordia used an 8-2 spurt to get within two, 54-52, with 4:09 to play.
Hannah Seely started the run with a put back and
Katie Drayton drained a pull up jumper in transition.
Seely corralled a defensive board and hit a pull jumper at the other end and she followed with a short jumper off a nice feed from Drayton to get within two.
The Warriors answered by sandwiching a pair of big three-pointers around
Nikki Baro's foul line jumper to take a 60-54 lead with three minutes remaining.
Sam Baro buried a three-pointer from the left corner off an inbounds pass from Drayton to get within 63-59 with 27 seconds to play.
After a Lycoming missed free throw, the Warriors got a steal and a fast break layup to seal the game.
The Cougars opened the game on an 8-0 run, including a pair of jumpers from
Sam Baro.
Lycoming responded with a 13-3 run to take a 13-11 lead midway through the first half.
Sam Baro nailed a three-pointer from the left wing to put MU back in front, 14-13, with just under 10 minutes to go.
She followed with a three from the right corner to make it 17-13.
Shannon Croasdale sank a pull-up jumper along the baseline to give Misericordia a 20-13 lead, but the Warriors scored eight straight points to go ahead, 21-20, with 3:36 remaining.
Smicherko sank a pull up jumper in the lane and Croasdale drilled a three-pointer from the right wing for a 25-21 lead.
Hannah Seely led the Cougars with eight rebounds on the day and was 7-8 from the floor, including six field goals in the second half.
Sam Baro was 6-10 from the floor, including 3-4 from three-point range.
Nikki Baro had eight points and four assists while
Katie Drayton added six rebounds and four assists.
Misericordia will visit Marywood, Tuesday.
