MU Baseball Splits at #21 Shenandoah

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Misericordia University baseball team opened the season with a doubleheader split at #21 Shenandoah, Saturday.

The Cougars took the opener, 2-1, but dropped the nightcap, 5-3.

Joe Tagliarini had two hits and an RBI in the opener and Evan Robaczewski tossed a complete game six-hitter to earn the win.

Chris Boroch added an RBI and Ryan Cacchioli and Will Minderjahn both had hits and scored runs in a two-run fifth inning.

Boroch and Cacchioli both had two hits in the nightcap while Nick Brebner had an RBI-double.

In the opener, the Cougars broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the fifth.

Cacchioli slapped a one-out opposite field single to right field and moved to third on Minderjahn's double down the right field line.

Cacchioli scored on Tagliarini's bunt single and Minderjahn came home on Andrew Tressa's ground out.

Shenandoah scored its lone run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and had the potential tying run on third base, but Robaczewski worked out of the jam with a fly out.

Robaczewski had six strikeouts.

Shenandoah took a 1-0 in the bottom of the first of the nightcap and the Cougars answered with a run in the top of the fourth.

Cacchioli doubled down the right field line and came home on Brebner's double to right center field.

The Hornets scored four runs in the fifth on just one hit, thanks to two walks and two hit batters.

The Cougars made it 5-2 in the sixth when Cacchioli and Tagliarini reached on back-to-back one-out singles and moved up on a ground out.  Boroch's two-out single through the middle scored Cacchioli.

MU added another run in the seventh before leaving the bases loaded.

Kenny Durling reached on an error and moved to second on Julian Faria's one-out single.  Tagliarini was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs and Durling came home on Kyle Lindsay's single to center field.

After a pitching change, the Cougars were retired on a ground out to end the game.
