Box Score Tyann McDaniel concluded her career with a triple-double as the Misericordia University women's basketball team ended the season with an 88-70 win over Manhattanville on “Senior Appreciation Day,” Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center.
McDaniel had 14 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds while fellow senior
Kayla Sileo added points.
Lauren Smicherko was 12 of 16 from the floor for a game-high 27 points and
Hannah Seely added 23 points on 10 of 12 shooting.
The Cougars raced out to an 11-2 lead and never trailed as Smicherko and Sileo combined for MU's first nine points.
Seely converted a three-point play for a 16-8 lead and took a nice pass from Sileo for an 18-11 advantage with 11:51 left in the first period.
Smicherko followed with a steal at midcourt and went the distance for a layup and a 20-11 lead.
Seely scored three straight baskets for the Cougars and McDaniel drained a three-pointer from the right win for a 31-19 lead with 6:41 to play.
Manhattanville cut the deficit to eight, 35-27, with 1:46 left in the half, but the Cougars closed the period on an 8-0 run.
Sileo made a jumper inside the three-point arc and Smicherko followed with a bucket from the right wing.
Seely made it 41-27 with a put back and McDaniel sank two free throws with nine seconds remaining for a 43-27 halftime lead.
The Valiants got within 49-39 with 16:04 remaining, but never got any closer as the Cougars stretched the lead back to 19 over the next three minutes.
Seely's layup made it 51-39 and Smicherko drained a three-pointer from the right wing and followed with a jumper from the right elbow for a 56-40 advantage with 13:59 to play.
Seely added a fade away and Sileo converted a three-point play for a 61-42 lead with 13:30 to go.
Smicherko buried a three-pointer in front of the MU bench and
Sam Baro followed with a layup to give Misericordia its biggest lead of the afternoon, 71-48, with 9:56 remaining.
The Cougars finished 12-13 overall and 5-8 in the Freedom.
