Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The Misericordia University softball team could never get the bats going, dropping a pair of games at Manhattanville, 2-1 and 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Kristi Seiler went 2-3 in each game and recorded the Cougars' lone RBI to lead the MU offense while
Mallory Getts went 2-4 in the first game.
Manhattanville jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game one on a Jessica Van Galen RBI-single up the middle. The Cougars threatened in the top of the second with runners on the corners and just one out, but the Valiants turned a timely double play to get out of the jam.
The Valiants got a pair of singles to open the bottom of the second and loaded the bases on an MU fielding error, allowing Kim Angliolillo to score on a walk and extend the Manhattanville lead to 2-0.
Seiler recorded a big two-out single in the top of the third to score
Diana Kestenbaum and cut the deficit to 2-1, but neither team threatened from that point on as Manhattanville held on for the win.
Cromley (1-5) took the loss for the Cougars in game one despite allowing just two runs (one earned) and striking out six in six innings of action.
In game two, it was Manhattanville who threatened first by loading the bases in the bottom of the second, but
Jess Armillay got a big strikeout to get out of the inning.
The Valiants would take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Katie Pitcher scored on an MU fielding error.
The Cougars threatened to tie the score in the top of the fourth with consecutive one-out singles from Seiler and
Kat LaBrie. An
Amanda Polaha sacrifice bunt placed runners on second and third, but the Valiants' Alyssa Taylor threw for a strikeout to end the threat.
A Shauna Mulkerin two-out double to left center in the bottom of the fifth scored two runs to extend Manhattanville's lead to 3-0, and the Cougars were never able to cut into the deficit in the loss.
Armillay scattered seven hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings while striking out three and walking six for MU.
The Cougars will look to get back on track tomorrow, taking on York College at 1:00 PM (weather permitting).
