3/27/2013 8:58:00 PM

Box Score Ryan Dorosh allowed just five hits and one run over seven innings of action and the Misericordia University baseball team christened Tambur Field with a 9-3 Freedom Conference victory over local rival King's College in their home opener Wednesday afternoon.

Kyle Lindsay went 3-4 with a double and 3 RBI, including the first ever Tambur Field hit, to lead the MU offense, while Ryan Cacchioli and Joe Tagliarini each added a pair of hits.

Dorosh got off to a hot start, striking out six batters through the first three innings, and a Steve Sulcoski double in the bottom of the third plated Lindsay to give MU a 1-0 lead through three innings.

After Dorosh and the MU defense retired the side in the top of the fourth, the Cougars used six straight hits to score five runs bottom of the fourth and break the game open. Cacchioli and Tagliarini opened the inning with back-to-back singles, and Mike Comerford made it three in a row with a single of his own, but Cacchioli was thrown out at home.

A Chris Boroch single would score Tagliarini, and a Lindsay double  scored both Comerford and Boroch to give the Cougars a 4-0 lead. Andrew Tressa singled to keep the streak alive, and a Sulcoski sacrifice fly scored Lindsay before Kenny Durling closed the scoring with a huge triple to score Tressa and give MU a 6-0 lead through four.

King's earned one run back in the top of the fifth, as the Monarchs got a leadoff double from Tim Marchetti and then used some small-ball to score him on an Anthony Re sacrifice to cut the deficit to 6-1.

A Michael Sweeney double would be the only hit for either team through the next two and a half innings, and both Dorosh and the Monarchs' Joe Dorbad retired the side in a quick seventh inning.

King's threatened in the top of the eighth with back-to-back singles from Brian Mikus and Sweeney but Cory Vogeli got Anthony Lizzi to fly out to end the inning.

Cacchioli was hit by a pitch to open the MU eighth and moved to third as Tagliarini reached on an error, allowing Taylor Zackman to step in for a pinch-hit RBI-single to score Cacchioli and push MU's lead to 7-1. After a Boroch groundout advance the runners to second and third, Lindsay's third hit of the day would score Tagliarini. Following a Tressa walk, Zackman scored the Cougars' final run of the day on a Sulcoski fielder's choice.

King's wouldn't give up, getting a pinch hit single from Jared Turner and another single from Marchetti to open the inning. After a Cody Krupa sacrifice hit advanced the runners, Max Weintraub would record the second out on a groundout. Rob Lemoncelli would walk to load the bases and the Monarchs would score a pair of runs when Weintraub walked Mikus and hit Sweeney with a pitch.

Eric Bohem looked to keep King's chances alive, but Brandon Barber came in for MU to record the final out on a groundout.

Dorosh earned the win on the mound, striking out six and scattering five hits and a run over seven innings of action. Vogeli allowed two hits in a scoreless eighth while Weintraub allowed two runs in two-thirds of an inning before Barber recorded the final out.

Dorbad took the loss for King's, allowing six runs and 11 hits in four innings of action. Shawn Heck allowed three runs (one earned) and two hits in four innings of relief.

Marchetti, Sweeney, and Mikus each posted a pair of hits for the Monarchs while both Marchetti and Sweeney had a double.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow for a noon doubleheader at King's.
