#13 Keystone Edges Cougars in Florida Finale

3/8/2013 2:42:00 PM

Senior Steve Sulcoski pounded three hits with an RBI but it wasn't enough as the Misericordia University baseball team dropped a back-and-forth affair with #13 Keystone on Friday morning at the Lawnwood Recreation Complex in Fort Pierce, FL.

Sulcoski was 3-5 on the day with a double while the rest of the MU offense managed just three hits total.

Keystone struck first in the bottom of the second inning, as J Garcia hit the third of three-straight singles to score T Gurman and give the Giants a 1-0 lead.

The Giants would hold that lead until the top of the fifth, when Sulcoski's double brought Andrew Tressa home to even the score at 1-1.

After opening the bottom of the sixth with a pair of singles to put runners on the corners, Keystone would regain the lead at 2-1 when G Molina scored on a passed ball.

The Cougars knotted the score again at 2-2 in the top of the seventh when Chris Boroch scored on a Ryan Cacchioli bases-loaded walk . However, the Giants would respond with a M Castano RBI-single in the bottom of the inning to score Garcia and go ahead 3-2.

Julian Faria was walked to open the top of the eighth for the Cougars, and Boroch sent him to third on a double down the left field line. Faria scored on a wild pitch to net the score at 3-3, and the Cougars had a chance to take the lead on a Kyle Lindsay sacrifice fly attempt to deep center field, but Gaston Rojas made a perfect throw to home to get Boroch out at the plate.

Keystone would have the last strike on this day, as L Guerrero took advantage of MU blunders to score what would hold as the game-winning run. Patrick Robinson came in in the top of the ninth to strike out two batters and earn the save to preserve the victory.

Justin Haddix took the loss for the Cougars, allowing one run in one inning of action. Evan Robaczewski made the start for the Cougars, allowing 10 hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out five in seven innings.

Krebs earned the win on the mound for Keystone, allowing two runs (one earned) and just one hit in two innings of work.  Rob Rogers started for the Giants, allowing four hits and one run while striking out 10 in six innings of work.

With the loss, the Cougars wrap up their Florida trip with a 6-2 record and fall to 9-3 overall. MU will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Neumann for a nine-inning game at 3:30 PM.
