The Misericordia University softball team swept a doubleheader at Albright, 3-1 and 12-3 in six innings, Monday.
In the opener, Jenn Cory had two hits and two RBI and
Whitney Ellenberg and
Sam Hare added two hits.
Jess Armillay scattered seven hits over seven innings to pick up the win.
In the nightcap,
Diana Kestenbaum had three hits and
Caitlin Cromley and
Andi Veneziale had two hits and two RBI. Ellenberg added two hits and scored three runs.
Cromley struck out three over six innings to earn the win.
MU took a 1-0 lead in the second when
Megan Hardy and
Melissa Parker walked and Hare's infield single loaded the bases.
Cory reached on an error to drive in a run, but the Lions got strikeouts to escape further damage.
In the fourth,
Schyler Yatsko drew a one-out walk and pinch-runner Armillay moved to second on Hare's infield single.
Cory singled up the middle to make it 2-0 and the Cougars added another run on a two-out error.
The Cougars jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first of the second game and never looked back.
Ellenberg doubled to right center and came home on Cromley's double to left. For Cromley, the RBI-double was the 150th hit of her career, making her the 18th MU player to achieve the feat.
After Yatsko and
Amanda Polaha reached on errors, Veneziale belted a two-run double to left center and Kestenbaum ended the scoring with a double to center.
MU added two runs in the fourth to make it 7-2. Ellenberg singled up the middle and raced to third when Cromley reached on an error.
Seiler's infield single drove in a run and Yatsko added a sacrifice fly.
Kestenbaum started a three-run rally in the fifth with an infield single and Cory and
Mallory Getts both walked to load the bases.
Cory scored on a wild pitch and
Shawnna Beil drew a bases-loaded walk before
Cailey Ware scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-2.
Kestenbaum led off the sixth with a single and pinch-hitter drew a walk. Both runners eventually scored on Cromley's RBI-groundout.
MU will visit Lycoming, Wednesday.
